Was mysterious Priest at crash really an Angel?

Emergency responders had been working for 45 minutes to free Katie Lentz from her car that was struck by a car that passed into her lane. Several failed attempts were wasting precious time given Katie’s injuries and vital signs. Another emergency worker standing by to evacuate Katie to a hospital stepped in and suggested turning the car up-right because her vitals were dropping. Before they flipped the car from it’s side back to it’s proper position Katie asked if someone would pray with her out loud. At that moment a Priest stepped forward and said, “I will.” He produced a vile of anointing oil, anointed nearby emergency workers as well as Katie.

Here’s the interesting part, the two emergency workers both heard “stay calm, your tools will work now.” As you see in the below video the emergency worker has difficulty describing exactly how he and his fellow hero heard the message but it produced an atmosphere of peace in which they proceeded to flip the car and free Katie. After the prayer and the car was flipped Katie’s vitals began to improve. She sustained multiple injuries but is expected to recover.

Afterward emergency workers turned to thank the Priest who was nowhere to be seen. This is a small community made up of four nearby towns only one of which has a Catholic perish and no one recognized this man as from there. He still has not been found.

Here’s the big question, was the Priest an Angel sent from God to help Katie?

Those of us who are believes are quick to attribute such occurrences to just that, an angel. It’s perfectly logical for us to accept that this was an angel that disguised himself as a priest because our Bible is full of stories about angel’s helping mankind. A part of us even wants it to be an angel because it’s comforting to us that angels are still active in our lives.

While we don’t know when or where they will show up we should absolutely expect God to send such help. His Word tells us that angels are ministering spirits to help men, women and children. Situations like this seem out of the ordinary but what if they were more normal than we realize. What if they’re so common they happen everyday in our world? Because we tend to only believe what we see and have evidence for we probably give more credit to luck and chance than angels.

The truth is that our human eyes cannot perceive that spiritual realm but it is very much a part of our lives. God is everywhere, Jesus promised that he would never leave us and angels are probably active all around us everyday. Our problem is that we don’t live lives aware of the spiritual dimension that is all around us and that we are in.

Jesus said to repent (change the way we think) because the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand. “At hand” means close by or joined to. We could say that believers are currently joined to God’s Kingdom in every moment. When we believe and trust God is puts us in a place to interact with that realm around us. Romans 8 says that if we’re in Christ then we’re in spirit so we don’t have to leave our current realm to enter the spirit realm but a distinction is made about our mindset. We can either be carnally (or worldly) minded or spiritually minded. What we’re aware of determines what we’ll experience or “walk in.” They’re coexisting realities and we choose which one we’ll “walk in”based on our mindset.

I want to live a life that’s fully aware of the natural world around me but also fully aware of the spiritual world around me. That helps me believe that all things are possible because I’m connected to the realm in which Jesus walks. One can never fully explain the seeming paradox but in moments like the Priest’s appearance we shift our thinking more toward what’s possible rather than just the cold hard reality of the physical world. We see time and time again in the Bible where that spiritual realm changes the impossible events of this physical world. I choose to live a life aware of that potential.

I believe the spiritual realm is even more real this this seen realm because “that which is unseen is eternal and that which is seen is temporary.” Something that is temporary cannot change an unseen eternal truth but most certainly an unseen eternal, spiritual truth can change a temporary situation.

Was the Priest an angel? I don’t know but I’d like to think so and I’d like to think angels are active in my life as well.

Listen to the emergency worker describe how he heard the message to remain calm and their efforts would now work.
